With an aim to check over-speeding of vehicles to curb road mishaps, the SSP Navjot Singh Mahal on Saturday launched ‘Over Speed Could Be Fatal’ campaign to sensitize people about speed limits.
The police will track the speed of vehicles through laser speed guns, which are to be used on road stretches including highways, rural roads etc to check speeding.
While rolling out the campaign, the SSP said that road mishaps were the major concern, which should be averted and the said campaign was an effort of district police to educate people about the speed limit, which should be followed in true spirit. He said that under the campaign hoardings, highlighting speed limits for various vehicles, had been installed across the district.
The police officers/officials, Mahal said, police will keep track on over speeding vehicles through laser speed guns. He said that the police would execute requisite strictness on this count besides issuing heavy challans on the spot to the violators. He said that as many as 27 challans had been issued to those, who disobeyed the prescribed speed limit. He said that the purpose of the campaign was also to check rash driving, which often invited the road accidents especially by the heavy vehicles.
In an appeal to the people, the SSP said that all of us should respect the speed limits in larger public interest besides averting any unfortunate incidents on roads.
