DISTRICT MAGISTRATE ORDERS NIGHT CURFEW WITHIN MUNICIPAL LIMITS **PROHIBITS NON-ESSENTIAL ACTIVITIES BETWEEN 9 PM AND 5 AM FROM TUESDAY NIGHT

Concerned over the rising number of COVID-19 cases, the District Magistrate Apneet Riyait today ordered additional restrictions within municipal limits from Tuesday night besides imposing night curfew from 9 pm to 5 am. 

Issuing orders under section 144 of CrPC, the District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait said that as per the instructions issued by the State Government yesterday, the movement of individuals for all the non-essential activities shall remain prohibited during night curfew within Municipal limits. Riyait further mentioned that however, the essential activities including operation of multiple shifts, movement of persons and goods on National and State Highways as well as unloading of cargo and travel of persons to their destinations after disembarking from buses, trains and aeroplanes would be permitted. The District Magistrate also clarified that all industries running into 2-3 shifts would also remain functional. 

Pointing out further, Apneet Riyait stated that restaurants, hotels and other hospitality units, shops and shopping malls would remain open till 8 pm while restaurants/hotels situated in shopping malls and liquor vends would be opened till 8:30 pm. 

The Deputy Commissioner also extended an appeal to the public to abide by all the requisite guidelines to contain the further spread of COVID-19 pandemic in larger public interest amid spike in Corona cases. 

Pertinently, the violation of said guidelines and lockdown measures shall be punishable under section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 besides legal action under section 188 of the IPC.
