Urging people to strictly adhere to health and safety protocols amid COVID-19 pandemic, the SSP Navjot Singh Mahal said that the offenders of COVID guidelines would not be spared at any cost as the District Police has already intensified the checking at all nakas.
The SSP said that people should take all preventive measures in view of their own and others safety as the COVID cases were rising.
Giving details regarding action taken against violators of COVID-19 guidelines only August 3 itself, the SSP said that the district police issued as many as 463 challans for not wearing masks with imposition of fine to the tune of Rs 2,31,000 besides issuing 94 traffic violations challans. Similarly, action is being taken against illicit liquor trade, under which 9 FIRs have been registered with seizure of 81 litre illicit and 62 litre licit liquor.
Warning those indulged in illicit liquor trade the SSP said that the District Police was fully geared to eliminate this scourge and the unscrupulous elements of illicit liquor trade were on the target, who would be brought to book.
The SSP said that the Hoshiarpur Police had so far issued 18889 challans to the violators of COVID guidelines, under the ‘Mission Fateh’ with imposition of a fine of Rs 86.89 lakh since March 23. He said that 649 cases were registered in various police stations since March 23 and 943 people were arrested besides 239 vehicles were seized under various violations.
Mr Mahal told that 146 persons have been fined Rs 26900 for spitting in public places and on road. SSP said that a total of 12076 challans have been issued so far to the traffic violators and 529 vehicles have been impounded. Mr Mahal further said that fine worth Rs 4000 has been imposed on two for violating social distancing norms besides four cases were registered for the violation of home quarantine and three violators were arrested. SSP said that this drive would continue in the coming days and action would be taken against the violators adding that the people have to play a vital role for further checking the spread of COVID 19.
