HP Govt. committed to help farmers in case of accident

HP Govt Committed to double the income of the farming community in the coming years . helps them fully in case of any accident. In order to help the farmers in times of crisis, Himachal Govt.is running the ‘Mukhyamantri Kisan and Khetihar Mazdoor Jeevan Suraksha Yojna’.
Under this scheme, financial assistance of Rs. 3,00,000 is given to the affected family on the death of a farmer in farm accident. There is a provision for compensation from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh in case of injury to the farmer. A sum of Rs. 1,00,000 for permanent rupture of the spine, Rs. 40,000 on the complete cut of both arms or both legs or one arm and one leg, Rs. 30,000 on the cutting of one arm or leg or four fingers, complete cut of one to three fingers, Rs. 20,000 and financial assistance of Rs 10,000 is given on partial finger and thumb cuts.
Agriculture Minister Virendra Kanwar says that the scheme was launched in the year 2015-16 to help the farmers. Earlier, under the scheme, there was a provision of compensation of Rs 1.50 lakh on the death of a farmer and a maximum of Rs. 50,000 in case of serious injuries. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur doubled the financial assistance provided under the scheme in May, 2019. The State Govt. is committed to help the farmers and officers have been instructed to spend maximum time in field.
The scheme provides for the assistance of only those farmers and agricultural laborers, who are injured or killed due to an accident while carrying agricultural machinery, tools and equipment, etc., in the field or carrying agricultural machinery from farm to house or vice versa. The scope of the scheme also includes all farmers and agricultural laborers who fall prey to death or disability while installing, operating, using or transporting machinery like tube-wells, bore-wells, pumping sets etc. Tractors used in agricultural operations, powered plow, power thrasher, mower, tools, equipments etc. are also included under its fold. Only local farmers and laborers come under the purview of the scheme and don’t include employees of a company or contractor.
Dr. Atul Dogra, Deputy Director Agriculture, Una District, states that to avail the scheme, it is mandatory for a legal heir of the deceased or the inured to apply to the concerned Block Agricultural Officer within two months of the accident. In case of an accident, the farmer should contact the concerned Block Agriculture Officer or Deputy Director Agriculture. The department is always committed to help the farmers.
