325 SHGs TO BRING MASSIVE SOCIAL & ECONOMIC CHANGE FOR NEEDY RURAL FAMILIES: APNEET RIYAIT

With a view to transforming the social and economic plight of needy women in rural areas, the District Administration has formed as many as 325 Self Help Groups under Punjab State Rural Livelihoods Mission, which would prove to be a milestone for their families.

Besides creation of these groups, the Administration has also disbursed the revolving fund to the tune of Rs 35.70 to 238 Self Help Groups (SHG) through Public Finance Management System, which will make their different ventures operational thus ensuring financial benefits to group members.

Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait, while elaborating Punjab State Rural Livelihoods Mission (PSRLM), said that these groups had been created in block Talwara, Dasuya and Hoshiarpur-2 to strengthen the financial position of needy and poor women in rural areas. Each group has at least 10 female members, which could take advance payment from Administration under the Mission on returnable basis to fulfil the basic needs before starting any activities of self-employment.

Apneet Riyait further pointed out that as per the comprehensive plan chalked out by the Administration there were nearly 200 SHGs in Talwara block, 48 in Dasuya, 54 in Hoshiarpur-2. The Administration is making concerted efforts to generate self-employment avenues especially amongst women of BPL families besides creating awareness amongst masses to come out with SHGs in villages.

The Deputy Commissioner also informed that under then PSRLM opening on accounts for new SHGs were under progress. She said that the District Administration had also appointed four bank Sakhis, a member of SHG, in Talwara and three in Dasuya to assist and facilitate exclusively to SHG for bank related purposes. Similarly, six active women have been appointed in Talwara block and five in Dasuya, who will create awareness amongst village women for creation of new SHGs to make these women self-reliant in employment front.

EK-JOT SELF HELP GROUP DAVAKHARI SET EXAMPLE FOR OTHERS
Davakhari village of Dasuya block’s 10-member Ek Jot Self Help Group has emerged as one of the leading and progressive group work achieving several laurels. Sharing her experience, Group head Manjit Kaur (50) mentioned that her group joined PSRLM in 2019 to manufacture phulkaris, handmade woollen clothes, embroidered chunnis and within short span of time they achieved a lot. Manjit pointed out that  before the COVID outbreak, she along with her husband exhibited products crafted by the group at Saras Mela Faridabad in February-2020, which registered an earnings of nearly Rs 3 lakh.

MARULI BRAHMNAN’s HANDICRAFT SELF HELP GROUP TO COME UP WITH MANUFACTURING OF PICKLE AND CHATNI
Another SHG of 13-member Handicraft group at village Maruli Brahmnan, the group head Balbir Kaur w/o Kewal Krishan said that they were ready to get their members trained with decrease in COVID crisis. She said that they had already identified a common site in village where all 13 members would start the manufacturing of four types of pickle and chatni, which would further be presented in various exhibitions and SARAS mela thereby providing economic benefits to the members.
